Quick As A Wink Theatre Society is holding open auditions for their upcoming production of The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid will be presented in January/February 2026.
EVERYONE aged 8 years old or older who would like to participate will be invited to be part of the cast - there will be no cuts for this production, but please still fill out the form
No experience necessary. Quick As A Wink prides itself on taking actors of all skill levels, from first timers to experienced actors, and teaching skills required to perform for a live audience. Our mission includes the education of community members in theatre and performing arts!
Ages:
Anyone 8 years or older are invited to participate (with no audition nesessary)
8-10 year olds must be accompained by a parent/guardian during rehearsals and performances
11 years old and up are invited to join the ensemble or audition for Flounder
15 years old and up are invited to join the ensemble or audition for the speaking roles indicated below
When: Auditions will be held the following times:
Friday, August 15th 5-7pm
Saturday, August 16th 1:30 -3pm
Saturday, August 23rd 1 - 3pm

What is Expected:
If you are auditioning for one of the roles listed below, please prepare a 30-second singing audition of a song of your choosing. Those interested in a speaking role will be asked to perform cold readings with others. Monologue not required. If you are auditioning for Flounder, please follow the directions specific for that character. If auditioning for Scuttle, be prepared to demonstrate your tap dancing abilities.
If you are auditioning for the ensemble and do not wish to audition, you are welcome to join the cast on the first rehearsal date, but we do need you to register on the audition form to indicate your interest in joining the cast!
All auditions should be prepared acapella (without accompaniment)

Rehearsals will be held at King’s-Edgehill School on Saturdays from 1-5pm (not every weekend - a schedule will be sent out at the first rehearsal)
The first rehearsal will be Saturday, September 13th from 1-5pm
"Tech Week" and show dates are as follows:
Sunday, Jan 25th – Rehearsal 1-5pm (call times TBA)
Monday, Jan 26th – 6 - 9:30 Dress rehearsal (photos being taken) – Children’s ensemble will be released earlier
Tuesday, Jan 27th – 6 – 9:30 Dress rehearsal (photos being taken) - Children’s ensemble will be released earlier
Wednesday, Jan 28th - Rehearsal, 6-9:00 pm (only if needed)
Thursday, Jan 29th - Preview Show – 6pm call for a 7pm performance
Friday, Jan 30th - Opening Night – 6pm call for a 7pm performance
Saturday, Jan 31st - Matinee & Evening show – 2pm and 7pm
Sunday, February 1st - Matinee – 2pm (Keep the evening available in case of rescheduled performances earlier in the weekend due to weather)
Friday, February 6th – 7pm show
Saturday, February 7th – 2pm and 7pm shows
KEEP AVAILABLE: Sunday, February 8th – No scheduled shows - but keep this day available in case of rescheduled performances due to weather.
KEEP AVAILABLE: Monday, February 9th and Tuesday February 10th - 7pm performances (only if any of the performances need to be cancelled because of the weather)
Full attendance during the rehearsal process and during production week is a requirement. Attendance concerns should be brought to the attention of the production team well in advance of the conflict date.
All participants will be given a rehearsal schedule. Conflicts should be brought to the attention of the production team immediately upon receipt of this schedule.

All roles are available. All ages listed are "stage age" and we invite anyone who feels they can portray the indicated age to audition. The gender listed is the gender of the character. Actors of any gender are invited to audition for any role.
FEATURED CHARACTERS
Ariel (Soprano, strong mix/belt) – A spirited, curious, and headstrong young mermaid princess who longs to explore the human world. Independent and determined, yet vulnerable in her journey to find her place. Requires strong singing, acting, and movement skills.
Playing age: late teens–20s
Prince Eric (Tenor or high baritone) – A charming and adventurous human prince who is restless with palace life. Brave and kind, with a deep love of the sea and a longing for something more. Strong singing and stage presence.
Playing age: 20s–30s
King Triton (Baritone) – Ariel’s powerful and protective father, ruler of the sea. Stern yet loving, he struggles to let go as his daughter grows up. Requires strong vocal ability and a commanding presence.
Playing age: 30s–50s
Ursula (Alto/Mezzo-Soprano with belt) – The cunning and flamboyant sea witch who plots to take over the ocean. Master manipulator with a wicked sense of humor. Big personality and powerhouse vocals.
Playing age: 30+
Sebastian (Tenor) – A fast-talking, lovable crab and King Triton’s advisor. Torn between loyalty to the king and helping Ariel follow her heart. Requires comedic timing, strong singing, and comfort with character movement. Caribbean accent preferred - the official liscensing company has the authors noting that Sebastian has a “broad send-up of a Caribbean accent (rather than an authentic Jamaican one)”
Playing age: 20+
Flounder (soprano) – Ariel’s loyal and nervous fish friend. Youthful energy, endearing personality, and strong singing voice required. Be prepared to do a reading from the script (Flounder audition scene.pdf) as well as sing the following section from “She’s In Love” (She's in Love audition cut.pdf) Playing age: early–mid teens (may cast older if able to play young)
Scuttle (Tenor, character voice) – A seagull and self-proclaimed expert on human objects. Quirky, comedic role with patter-style songs and strong physical comedy.
Playing age: 20+
Flotsam & Jetsam (Tenor/Baritone – character voices - may be transposed to be alto voices) – Ursula’s sly, sinister eel henchmen. Sleek, snakelike movement and good harmonies essential. Often cast as a matched pair.
Playing age: 18+
Chef Louis (Tenor – strong character voice) – The eccentric French chef with a love for seafood (and a vendetta against Sebastian). Physical comedy and comedic timing a must.
Playing age: 25+
Mersisters (Soprano/Mezzo-Soprano) – Ariel’s glamorous, comedic sisters. Distinct personalities, strong harmonies, and playful stage presence required. Playing age: teens–20s
ENSEMBLE ROLES - any non-speaking roles will be assigned during the first few weeks of ensemble rehearsals (such as lead dancers)
