Welcome to the 2021 Virtual Workshops!
Are you missing theatre like we are? Are you excited to start getting back into the swing of things? Well, look no further! QAAW will be offering 5 virtual workshops in preparation for hopefully being able to bring you back to the stage in the near future. Whether you are a seasoned professional, or someone who has only just started to think about joining community theatre, we have something for you! Each class is geared towards new and old alike and will give you lots of information on how to continue your theatre journey. We’ve rounded up an amazing group of instructors to guide you through this series of 2 hour, intimate, hands-on classes, and best of all, it’s all from the comfort of your own home using zoom!
Below is all the information you need to help choose what is right for you. You can choose a la carte for $15 a class, or attend them all for a discounted price of $60 (That’s buy 4, get one FREE). There is no wrong option! Workshop dates are TBD, but we are aiming for a fall series. Keep an eye on our facebook page for ticket and date information!

CLASS ONE – Directing for the Stage

What to expect:
Have you always dreamed of directing your own show but don’t know where to start? Or maybe you’ve directed a ton of different shows but are looking to pick up some tips and tricks you may not already know? This is the class for you! You will be covering a complete overview of what it takes to bring a performance to the stage. Starting with what happens after your performance is chosen, right to when the curtain comes up, with everything in between (and trust us, there is A LOT of in between!). Whether it be a play, musical, or something in the middle, Mike will touch on what is needed to bring your view to life. There will also be a question and answer time, so start writing down those burning questions you’ve always wanted an answer to.
CLASS TWO – Auditioning for the Stage

What to expect:
Do you dream of being on stage but don’t know where to start? Does the thought of walking into an audition frighten you? Or maybe you are a seasoned professional looking for some information that may make the auditioning process a bit easier? Then this is the class for you! Mike will touch on everything you need before, during, and after an audition for the stage. He will help you know what you need to get ready so you can be confident walking into that next audition. Whether it is your 1st, 5th, or 20th audition, everyone will come out of this class with some new tools for their auditioning belt.
CLASS THREE – Auditioning for Film & Television

What to expect:
Thinking about taking a leap from the stage to the silver screen? Then look no further! Rick will give you an overview of what you need to make the jump. Everything from landing the audition, making an audition tape, tips to remembering the script, right down to audition etiquette! Nova Scotia is home to so many opportunities when it comes to film and television, and if you are thinking of breaking into it, this class is a great place to start.
CLASS FOUR – The Art of Stage Makeup

What to expect:
Have you ever watched a show and thought “WOW! That makeup looks amazing! how did they do that?!”? Then this is the class for you! This workshop is designed to introduce students to basic stage makeup and basic special effects for theatre through demonstration. This class will cover Introduction to Tools & Materials, Basic Stage Makeup, and Basic SFX Makeup.
Please note: While not required, there is an option to work along with our instructor and a supplies list will be sent out prior to the class. Please remember that you can enjoy this class without having to purchase any extra supplies, but the option is there if you would like to try these effects in real-time.
CLASS FIVE – Auditioning for Musical Theatre

What to expect:
Have you caught one of our big musical shows and found yourself dancing along with the actors on stage? Does the thought of a big musical number send your heart racing with excitement? Then this is the class for you! In this workshop, we will be covering introductory level information on auditioning for musical theatre, specifically for community theatres such as Quick As A Wink. The primary focus of this workshop will be how to prepare for your audition, how to handle audition anxiety, what happens once you’ve been cast, as well as selecting the right audition material for you.
