 Play synopsis:

The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions, the title suggest the “female characters are as delicate as magnolias but as tough as steel.”

 Roles Available (Southern accents required):

Truvy Jones – Late 30s to late 40s. Owns the beauty shop built by her underemployed, sofa-slug of a husband in their carport. She’s a romantic at heart and philosophical about life.

Annelle Dupuy-Desoto – 20s. A naïve, hesitant and unsure newlywed and beauty school graduate with a desperate secret. Delightful, but a tad ditzy.

Shelby Eatenton-Latcherie – 20s. The prettiest girl in town. A neo-natal nurse at the local hospital. She is headstrong, playful and sardonic.

Clairee Belcher – 60+, the widow of the former mayor. She is an eccentric millionaire and Grande dame who has been forced to run her husband’s businesses. A funny, kind and sweet-hearted woman who is close friends with Ouiser and has a teasing, snarky relationship with her.

M’Lynn Eatenton – Mid-40s to 50s. A socially prominent career woman who works at the Mental Guidance Center. As Shelby’s mother, she worries about her daughter's health.

Ouiser (pronounced “Weezer”) Boudreaux – 60+. An upper middle-class, grouchy but funny and good-hearted woman, whose best friend is Clairee Belcher. An acerbic attitude . . . but loveable.

Rehearsals will begin after the show is cast. Performances will be Mid-March 2015 at the Fountain Performing Arts Centre, King’s-Edgehill School, Windsor.
