I guess this is it.
I have a few last minute bits of paperwork to complete and have been working on a manual of sorts for next year’s employees, but once these tasks are wrapped up, I’ll be clocking out for the last time.
I genuinely have not wrapped my head around the fact that this is my last day working for Quick As A Wink. The information has refused to take root in my brain. It doesn’t quite seem real. QAAW given me three absolutely amazing summers, so saying goodbye seems impossible.
Of course, this isn’t really goodbye; while the timeline of my next degree likely prevents me from returning as a summer student next year, I definitely plan on keeping Quick As A Wink a regular part of my life. I will be attending Pub Trivia for the remainder of this summer and will be continuing to write the “Spotlight on…” pieces while away at school (so long as folks send some nominations my way!) I also plan on auditioning for more shows again once I am back home for a more permanent stay. Of course, you can also always find me in the QAAW audience and, should my schedule be permitting, I also hope to attend my first Winkie Awards this year!
However, despite all of this, today still feels like the end of something. All I can really do now is say thank you to everyone who made these three summers so amazing:
Thank you to Katrina, Mark, and the rest of the Quick As A Wink Board for giving me the opportunity to work here three summers in a row. Thank you for your encouragement, your trust, and for being such great teachers. I’ve learned new things about theatre, myself, and the world every single summer I’ve been here. I’m so grateful for the opportunities you’ve given me and the kindness you’ve shown.
Thank you to all my fellow summer students, past and present: Kelsey, Gus, Meredith, and Shelby. All of you did great work, were so passionate in everything you tackled, and were always willing to lend a helping hand or listening ear. It’s been fun getting to know each one of you!
An enormous thank you to each and every camper I had the pleasure of working with over these past three years. You’ve inspired me in so many ways, from your energy and enthusiasm to your natural talents to your kindness and maturity. I couldn’t have asked for better groups of kids. I’ve been very blessed, and I am a better person for having met and worked with each one of you.
Finally, I’d like to thank all the parents, guardians, friends, volunteers, and all the other people I’ve met over the past three years who made this journey possible. Without your support, we at QAAW wouldn’t be able to do what we do. Even the little things you do have brought me so much joy; your simple comments of, “My child already wants to come back to camp next year!” or “Oh, you must be Ally! We’ve never met, but I’ve been reading your blog posts,” have made me feel so valued and as though I truly am a part of this wonderful community.
To next year’s summer student(s), I wish you all the best. I hope you know that you have been given one of the best jobs around. You are going to have so much fun.
It’s been a blast, Quick As A Wink. Thanks for having me.
