Summer Student Blog Post: The End of Something Great

Hello lovely blog readers!  It has been so long since my last post and I have so much to update you on.

Friday was a bittersweet ending to a wonderful two weeks of musical theatre camp.  I had an absolutely fantastic time working with all of our campers to create the wonderful performance that they presented on Friday night.  They were wonderful musical collaborators, and they delivered an absolutely stellar performance.  I am proud of every single one of them for giving their best performances yet.

I had actually never accompanied an entire show before, so our three runs of the show on Friday was definitely challenging.  I’m glad I had the chance to expand my skillset and give our talented campers the live musical experience that they deserved.

Friday was also filled with lots of other excitement.  Two of our campers brought delicious pasta for us all to enjoy at lunchtime, which Ally talked about in her last post.  Another camper brought everyone cupcakes.  They were to die for.  It was so nice to see everyone bond and become friends over the two weeks, and I was so sad to see it come to an end.  It was definitely one of the best things I’ve been a part of.

Sunday I was busy at Avon River Days, painting faces and running the sucker pull with Ally.  We had a few of our musical theatre campers come out to our table, and I had loads of fun painting cat whiskers on their faces.  Some of them even brought glitter to amp our face painting up a notch.  I had some great requests from my face painting “victims.” I got to paint one little girl as a golden dragon, one little boy as a cheetah, along with lots of butterflies and Pokéballs.   I had lots of fun painting my own face too.

After camp and Avon River Days, I’m back to the other parts of my job. Last night’s trivia with Ally was exciting and fun.  I especially loved her round featuring Pokémon-Go!  I’ll be hosting again next week and now that I know what I’m doing I’m more excited and less nervous.  Make sure to look out for the trivia theme clue on our Facebook page on Sunday night!

Right now I’m busy researching and writing grants for funding to finish our building.  I best be getting back to all the applications and forms.

Cheers,

Shelby
