Today’s “Spotlight” is on Ariel herself, the sweet and amazing Maya Read!
Maya has been involved with Quick As A Wink for about six years, having been introduced to our company by another talented QAAW member. “I first became involved with Quick As A Wink in 2013 when I was cast in 42nd Street, through the encouragement of a close friend, Elsa Hodder,” Maya says. “Since then, I have been in several shows, including Little Shop of Horrors, The Secret Garden, Cinderella, and Annie.”
It is Maya’s belief that theatre helps bring out the best in people. “In my opinion, the best thing about theatre is the vulnerability, truthfulness, and work that is put on the stage by actors,” she says. “Also, being in a show creates a family of people who support each other to make something creative and exciting.”
Playing Ariel in The Little Mermaid has been very exciting for Maya, and she believes audiences are in for a real treat. “My favorite thing about playing Ariel is that I love the music in this show and I get to interact with fun characters and talented actors,” she says. “I think what the audiences will like most about The Little Mermaid are the playful characters and the songs we all know from this Disney classic, with added ones in this musical production.”
Onstage with QAAW is not the only place Maya showcases her musical talents. “My interests and hobbies outside of theatre are learning to play the guitar and producing music and covers of songs,” she says. In exciting news, Maya has also been accepted into Sheridan College’s Music Theatre Performance program, which she starts this fall. While we will miss seeing her take the Quick As A Wink stage, we are very proud and excited that she has been granted this wonderful and well-deserved opportunity.
Don’t miss your chance to see Maya perform in The Little Mermaid! Three shows remain, with performances starting at 7pm on June 10th, and 11th, and matinee a performance starting at 2pm on June 11th! For more info or to purchase tickets, click here.
