Summer Student Blog Post: Sour Straps, Emails, and Ads (Oh My!)

Have you seen any of our Little Mermaid posters when out and about?

Have you seen any of our Little Mermaid posters when out and about?

It’s been a busy first week back!

With The Little Mermaid opening just two weeks from today – which is super exciting! – I have been working on a series of different tasks, many involving marketing for the production. I’ve been out putting up posters, booking signs, posting on online community message boards, preparing to write a series of Little Mermaid themed “Spotlight” articles, and even booked a radio ad! (More info on this to come – it’ll be airing closer to opening night!)

I’ve also been hard at work preparing to promote our summer camps; I have already booked presentation dates at six different local schools, and I am in talks with others as we speak. I also tidied up the presentation itself this week and prepared some notices to leave with students; all that’s left to do now is get out to the schools and actually present! I can’t wait to head out to the schools and play some games with the kids (though I better prepare myself; my legs were pretty sore after numerous games of “Whoosh” last summer!)

I also made time in my schedule to make it out to my first Pub Trivia night of 2016; I really enjoyed going last summer, but haven’t been able to attend since then due to attending university in New Brunswick during the academic year. It was a great first night back, though; somehow my team, "Quarter Life Crisis", managed to snag second place and win one of Mark’s “Semi-Fabulous Prizes”: this week it was some delicious Sour Straps candy! I would highly encourage anyone interested in Trivia to come out and give it a try; it’s only two dollars per person to play, and you get to play with a team of your friends! We hold Pub Trivia every Tuesday at 7pm at the Spitfire, and new teams are always welcome. The top three placing teams not only win weekly prizes (either a Spitfire gift certificate or a Semi-Fabulous mystery prize): they also win points, and at the end of the year, the team with the most points will win a cool prize! Even if you don't place, it's really fun to play. (Trust me; my team and I have performed terribly at times, but it's always a good time.) I hope to see you there! Who knows, you may even get a chance to see me guest host before the summer is over!

For now, I’m off to work on another marketing project for the show; keep an eye open for it on Facebook in the coming days!

Cheers, and talk to you all again on Monday,
