Spotlight on ... Angela Grant!

Today’s “Spotlight” is the first in our special “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress Spotlight Series” and somewhat different from the others you have seen thus far; we would like to introduce a brand new member of our QAAW community, the wonderful Angela Grant, who will be playing the role Meredith in our upcoming production of Five Women Wearing the Same Dress!

Angela’s involvement with both QAAW and Five Women did not unfold the way she had initially expected; in fact, she had not even planned on taking the stage at all! “Lisa Lee had originally asked me to be the stage manager for Five Women,” Angela says. “I had never done anything like that before and, after many discussions with the directors, decided to give it a try. Then, at one of the auditions, Jeannie [Myles] was reading the part of Mindy, and Lisa and Brenda [Ley] asked me to feed lines to her. Some of the lines were those of Meredith. The read came very naturally to me, and before I knew it, I was Meredith, and a new stage manager was needed.”

This show will not only be Angela’s Quick As A Wink debut, but also her very first theatrical performance! She credits Meredith as being the role that first sparked her interest in acting. “Growing up in Ontario, I was able to see a variety of shows in both Stratford and Toronto, but I had never been on the stage before,” she says. “I had never even wanted to be on the stage, to be honest, but there was something about Meredith that drew me in. 2016 is a year of personal transition for me, and I realized that I was in need of a bridge from one phase to the next. I eventually recognized that by playing Meredith, I had found my bridge. Meredith and I share a lot of similar characteristics, and it’s cathartic for me to bring her to life. By giving Meredith a voice, I’m giving one to myself too.”

Angela believes that Five Women will appeal to audiences due to its talented cast and relatable characters. “Five Women Wearing the Same Dress is about the strength and perseverance of the female spirit and [how in] a very familiar setting, during a very familiar experience, five women come to life and find their voices,” she says. “I think many people in the audience will relate to [Meredith’s] story. I also think many people will see themselves in each and every one of the characters on stage. This is not only an awesome group of actors – it is a group of wonderfully talented and strong women, and I can’t imagine four others I’d want on stage with me during my debut.”

In addition to performing in Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, Angela recently joined our Quick As A Wink Board of Directors, so you will be seeing quite a bit of her in the future!
