Today’s “Spotlight” is on the fantastic Brenda Bailey!
For over a decade, Brenda has been a valued cast member during many of our musical productions. “I started with Quick As A Wink in 2005, right after my family moved to West Hants, as Mrs. Stannus in Glory Days,” she says. “I have been in two productions of Glory Days and two productions of King Island Christmas, and in Oklahoma!, The Secret Garden, and Cinderella. Musical theatre seems to be the genre that I gravitate to since that is where most of my experience lies.”
Brenda is especially drawn to the theatre due to its unpredictability and sense of community. “Anything can happen in live theatre, and it often does,” she says. “It's also that feeling of intimacy with the cast that draws people in to the story as if they are part of the production.”
Though Quick As A Wink, Brenda has not only experienced these joys, but also others more specific to our company. “I have enjoyed being part of a company that embraces local talent and gives newcomers a place to grow,” she says. “I'm also tickled that one of my performances was recognized with a Winkie Award in 2014!”
Brenda is always looking for her next acting challenge and has a number of parts she would one day love to tackle. “Where do I start?” she says. “Unfortunately, as time passes, I have had to cross some roles off of my list, but it's always great to have a role you can sink your teeth into, and sometimes it's just as great to be in the ensemble!”
In addition to her theatre aspirations, Brenda has a number of other interests and hobbies that keep her busy. “Outside of the theatre I am a musician, farmer, creative entrepreneur, brewery owner, educator, and certified Master Gardener,” she says.
Thank you for all your contributions to Quick As A Wink, Brenda! Your talent is off the charts, and we hope to have you singing on our stage again soon!
