Summer Student Blog Entry July 5: She’s Making a List, and Checking it Twice

No, I’m not Santa Claus! Although, I have been very busy with my own list- a list of grants that I am applying for for Quick As A Wink this summer.

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a fantastic week. I, myself went to the Hantsport fireworks on Wednesday, and was very impressed with their Canada Day festivities! Other than that, it has been all work and no play for this girl. I dove deep into applying for grants, and I didn’t want to break my streak! As I write this blog post, I sit down at my little office I have created for myself, ready to crack down on work for the day.

Applying for grants for the theatre is extremely important, because, as the saying goes, money doesn’t grow on trees. It is essential that our non-profit organization continue to receive grants from the government and larger corporations in order to ensure we bring to you quality productions. That being said, one of my main focuses for the summer is finding grants and awards to apply for.

The application process started with researching grants which will apply to the theatre. These included grants pertaining to theatre, or the arts genre as an entirety. I found many of the grants I am applying for from the Canada Council for the Arts website. There were so many options; I was pleasantly surprised with the diversity of awards available. After my research, I then compiled a list of all of the grants I plan to apply for this summer, and ones I’ve found that Quick As A Wink Can apply for in the future. After that, I began studying the grants one by one, filling out applications, and writing up proposals for donations.

Once I got into the swing of things, I became more efficient, and everything seemed to go by very smoothly. I’m grateful that I am able to practice this process, as I believe it is good practice for my future career in public relations.

Until next time, everyone! And an update: one more week sunburn free! I’m on a role guys!
