Summer Student Blog Entry July 31st: I Have Been Changed For Good

Camp is over and I want to cry.

Actually, I have to admit that I already shed a few tears tonight during our spectacular Musical Theatre Showcase; when my girls were belting out those harmonies during the show’s closing number (“For Good” from Wicked) I was struck by both how hard they worked and the fact I wouldn’t be working with them again next week and experienced a bit of an emotional overload. I could not be happier with all they have accomplished and feel so blessed to have been given the chance to work with each of these amazing young women and watch them grow.

The show went extremely well. I received compliments and thanks from many parents and other audience members (though really it’s our actors who they should be praising!) The songs were beautiful, the monologues emotional, and the transition scenes between pieces went over great. (For those of you who don’t know, all the transition pieces you saw joining scenes in tonight’s show were written collectively by our campers earlier last week!)

We had a quick camp closing ceremony after the performance and I very nearly cried again. The girls got their camp certificates, new QAAW t-shirt, and a flower. I received many hugs as our actors said their farewells, and received an incredibly sweet card from one of the girls thanking me and saying I was a great friend. Thank you all so so much. I am so very touched and feel very loved. I’d like to thank every one of our actors for being such wonderful companions these past two weeks (and thank you, Quick As A Wink, for giving me the chance to work with all of them!) Your kindness and positivity made coming to work more fun than I could have imagined, and I hope I get a chance to work with all of you again someday. All of you are truly “on fleek!” *winks*

I’m both exhausted and wide awake after such an eventful day! I better grab some sleep, though -  tomorrow Meredith and I will be walking in the Avon River Days parade and be doing some fundraising on the Windsor Waterfront, so I’ll need to be well rested for another fun but busy day!

Thank you again to everyone who participated in both our Musical Theatre and Drama Camps this summer. As the song goes, “because I knew you, I have been changed for good.”

Cheers,
Ally
