Summer Student Blog Entry June 29th: Audition Scheduling, Snack Crafts, and Setting up the "Spotlight!"

Hello everyone!

Today I’ve been working away once again at prepping for our summer camps as our first day of Drama Camp is a mere TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY! I cannot believe how time has flown, but I am incredibly excited to get these camps underway.

Today I’ve been looking into ideas for props our campers can make as crafts for our exciting Drama Camp production. (While I cannot give away the title of the show here on my blog, I can tell you that this play is based on one of my favorite childhood stories and I could not be happier about performing it, though I am a tad worried I may cry at the show’s end!) One scene from our show takes place at a fairground and requires a lot of snack props such as popcorn, cotton candy, and candied apples, so I spent the morning largely looking into food-themed crafts, which has been making me very hungry!

In other camp related news, information regarding audition times was emailed out last Friday to parents who have registered their children for either of our camps. This email contains a link to a Google Drive document where you can simply type in the name of your child into the timeslot of your choosing to reserve your audition time. Boom! Easy! (If you are having difficulty with this, make sure the document has indeed opened in Google Drive; following opening the provided link you may need to click in the right hand corner of your screen on the “Open in Drive” button before being able to type in your child’s name!) If you need any assistance with this, feel free to contact me so I can lend a hand.

I’m also excited to be getting our new “Spotlight on …” social media segment going this week! Every Wednesday and Saturday, Quick As A Wink will be posting about a valued member of our theatre community who deserves recognition. All of the people you will see highlighted in this segment have been nominated for the honour by Quick As A Wink fans or members, and could be involved with the theatre in a number of different ways, ranging from actor to musician to behind-the-scenes help.

The first two people to be highlighted in this week’s debut postings have already been selected, and we cannot wait for you to meet them! We need nominations from YOU to keep this segment going strong, so we would love to hear your further nominations! Send us a Facebook message, an email, or simply comment on one of our “Spotlight on …” entries to nominate someone you feel is deserving of attention!

That’s all for today! More camp planning lies ahead for me this week, so be sure to check in on Friday for a sneak peek at what our summer camps will have in store!

Have a wonderful week everyone, and Happy Early Canada Day!

Cheers,
Ally
